Dealing with a crowded desktop might cause inconvenience, especially if you need to immediately start video recording. One way to solve this issue is to hide all icons from your desktop. A Mac program DesktopUtility does this job.
Besides allowing you to easily hide and reveal desktop icons, this application is also capable of immediately emptying Trash, revealing invisible files and User Library folder, and restarting Finder, Dock, or the Menu Bar. The utility immediately completes any of these tasks, without slowing down the performance of your Mac.
A good aspect is that you can define global hotkeys for immediately finishing the aforementioned tasks. You can do that by going to Preferences -> General and recording the shortcut keys for every function.
The program also gives you access to an option which, once it's enabled, places a small menu on your status bar. From there, you can control the way this application operates.
Except for that, nothing more can be said about DesktopUtility. It does exactly what's being said on the homepage of the developer, without slowing down your system. Plus, it comes without a price. So, I can't find any reasons why you shouldn't give it a try.
