DbVisualizer is a database manager that has the main advantage of running on multiple operating systems and supporting practically every existing RDBMS.

From the practical point of view, it comes with the additional benefit that you do need to learn to use a new application for every database type. The application allows all common database operations such as browsing, editing, and compiling. Moreover, it lets you create and modify SQL queries.

The tool allows connecting to both local and remote databases. As said above, it is compatible with a long array of relational database types, including Amazon Redshift, Derby, Exasol, H2, IBM DB2 LUW, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, Mimer SQL, MySQL, Netezza, NuoDB, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SAP ASE, SQLite and Vertica. However, it does not support non-SQL databases.

The tool has a straightforward interface, although it may look somewhat outdated to you. Good news is that it has wizards to set new database connections without much effort. Moreover, there is a database browser which shows a tree-like structure of such objects as tables, procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and modules, which facilitates executing object-specific actions. Likewise, you can perform actions that affect a group of such objects, like deleting various tables.

DbVisualizer is also a good choice if you need to create and schedule tasks for managing instances, session storage and security. Moreover, it allows real-time monitoring of the databases. Similarly, the tool can be used to manipulate the data in a table with operations such as viewing, creating, editing, deleting, importing, and exporting.

Another great advantage of this product is its built-in SQL editor, which you can use to edit and execute SQL statements, with the help of its error highlighting feature. Likewise, there is a query builder that works visually, for instance, by dragging tables and joining columns, which helps you create queries even if you are not very familiar with the SQL language.

All in all, I am sure DbVisualizer is a great addition to the toolbox of any database administrator, data analyst or software developer, mostly due to its versatility. The product is available in two licenses and, fortunately, one of them is free. By purchasing the Pro license, you unlock some advanced features you could not access without paying. Regrettably, the free license may be not enough for your needs and the price of the pro license seems a little high.
