CPULed is a system monitoring tool that runs on the menubar. The application allows you to keep an eye on the state of your central processing unit (CPU), while you are working on something else. CPULed is a free application that can be downloaded from the Mac App Store.
The app shows an icon on your menubar, which lets you see its state at a glance. You change the icon set and other settings from the Preferences window, which you can access by clicking the menubar icon. When the CPU is not being used too much, the default icon's color is green. And when the CPU gets loaded and hot, it turns red. If you move your mouse pointer over the icon, you will see a percentage of the total load and the CPU temperature.
From the Preferences window, you can change the icon set according to whether you want to display information for each processor separately or an average of them all, and whether you want to use Fahrenheit or Celsius degrees for temperature. You can also set the refresh interval (default 3 seconds).
In short, this app is nice, lightweight and it is very customizable. If you only need to keep an eye on CPU usage, then go ahead and get it.
