Collagerator is a straightforward and easy-to-use application that allows you to create beautiful collages out of your pictures. The program helps you gather within a single layout the beautiful moments you have experienced and immortalized in photos. Now you have the chance to share them with other people in an original form.
The utility provides one of the most simple and intuitive interfaces I have ever seen in this kind of software tools, so you won’t need much photo managing skills to use this program. When first opening the application, you are asked whether to start a new project or continue editing an existing one – which is a good feature, since you have a history of your latest works and the ability to apply further adjustments to a closed session. As other programs alike, Collagerator comes with a series of themes that you can use for displaying the photos. Yet, these templates are neither spectacular nor comprehensive. At this moment, the originality of the project is given by the photos' content, not by the default arrangement of pictures.
Once the theme of the collage is selected, you can start loading the images. This operation consists of adding one file at a time. I tried to drag and drop an entire folder, but I didn't succeed at it, although such a possibility would have been more convenient. Then you can apply further customization to the pictures' layout. In this sense, the app lets you rearrange the photos by changing their position within the whole picture. Furthermore, you can reduce or enlarge some images to create an asymmetric effect. It is also possible to apply shadows and frames, as well as to change the background. Your collage project can be exported to most popular image formats, such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, and so on. Prior to conversion, you can apply a series of final adjustments regarding the size and resolution.
In short, the program offers a fast and easy method of designing original photo collages. The tool’s main attribute is its ease of use. Still, I should mention that the app runs rather slowly when loading the images or customizing the colors. You need to be patient and wait for the program to finish the tasks in its own pace. Furthermore, I would have liked to come with a more generous preview – maybe opening the preview in a new larger window would be preferable.
