ClipGrab is a simple download manager that enables you to fetch clips from multiple video sharing websites, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and many others. The application can also convert the downloaded videos to formats that are compatible with various media devices, like mobile phones or tablets, and Mac programs, such as iTunes, QuickTime, etc.
You can use the integrated search tool to quickly find the videos you wish to fetch or paste the URL of the clip directly in the Downloads window. The utility lets you select the preferred output format (MP3, MP4, WMV, etc.) and quality (240p, 360p, etc.). Then, you can click the Grab This Clip! button and wait for the app to download the video.
An advantage is that the program places an icon in your Menu Bar. By clicking it, you reveal the main window of the application and you can immediately start downloading the videos you need. Furthermore, the output quality is excellent.
My only problem with this download manager is that it doesn't give you access to advanced output settings. For instance, it lacks settings for selecting the preferred bit rate and frame rate values. This is important if you intend playing the downloaded clips on media devices that require a certain bit rate or frame rate to be played.
If you ask me, it's definitely worth trying this utility if you wish to easily download and convert videos from YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion. It's free of charge, so you have nothing to lose if you decide to install it on your computer.
