Chipmunk is a tool that can find duplicate files. Duplicates often take necessary hard drive space and they can at times slow down your system. Chipmunk offers a very easy way to find those duplicate files and get rid of them. The app has some features that help you find duplicate files with little effort. This is possible mainly because instead of looking for files with identical names only, Chipmunk does in fact look for the content of the files. This is a very efficient way of comparing files.
When you first start the application, you will be asked on what drive you want to look for duplicates. You can also add other locations within your drives, like the desktop, documents, etc. When you do that, Chipmunk will start analyzing your files and folders. This process can take a long time, depending mainly on the number of files in your drive. After this is done, Chipmunk will start comparing those files to see if there are any duplicates. If it finds any, they will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can then delete those files by sending them to the trash or use the Quick Look feature to view them.
All in all, Chipmunk does a great job finding duplicates. If you are scanning a full drive, it can take a while, but that is understandable.
