Boson Express

Edit audio imported from various sources: files, microphones and sound cards.

Boson Express is intended to edit audio. It has a nice straightforward interface, similar to those of many other audio editors.

Most of the main window is devoted to displaying the audio’s waveform, which comes in very handy when selecting a given segment. Fortunately, it can be zoomed in or out according to the task you are performing at the moment.

The tool supports importing audio from various sources, like external files, sound cards and microphones. It can also extract audio from video if you need to. Fortunately, it lets you work on various simultaneous projects by opening different windows.

The editor supports common operations such as cutting, pasting, deleting and cropping. Likewise, it lets you apply various types of effects, including Normalize, Silence, Reverse, Swap Channels and Fade In/Out. However, it does not support as many effects as other similar editors. Just to mention some examples, it cannot suppress noise effectively or generate speech from text. When you are done editing, the results can be exported in the tool’s own format as, unluckily, it may even crash if you intend to export to any other format. Regrettably, it does not make efficient use of system resources either.

All in all, although Boson Express is free, it will not solve many of your problems as it is actually a demo of Boson. In this respect, some of the limitations described above can be avoided by purchasing the complete edition while others are likely to remain.
