Battle Monkeys is a 3D multiplayer game in which you control a small army of monkey warriors and battle against other contestants in a live fight for your life. The program provides amazing graphics and soundtrack. You are expected to level up and unlock different monkeys to fight with.

It's not chess, but it's certainly strategy-intensive as well as luck-driven. It's also the most user-friendly use of freemium I've yet seen.
