AVCWare Video Converter Standard is a video conversion tool. There is another version of this converter, called "Ultimate" which comes with extra features, but it is a bit more expensive. If what you are looking for is an application that can convert video files into a variety of other formats, this app probably will be enough. It has a good graphical user interface and it works well.
The graphical user interface uses the layout that you have probably seen in many commercial video converters. There is a toolbar at the top, the video conversion menu and the settings at the bottom, and a video player on the right. I don't have any problems with this GUI. In fact, I quite like it.
In my testing, I converted an MKV file into a conversion profile for the New iPad. The file had a resolution of 720p and it was 1 minute and 5 seconds long. The conversion process took 49 seconds. This isn't really fast, but isn't terribly slow either. The resulting file looked good on iTunes and on my iPad 2.
In conclusion, this is a reliable video converter, with good format support and a nice interface. It is missing a video editor, which is a feature commonly found in many other commercial converters.
