AstroDSLR is an application that helps you capture digital space images using DSLR cameras. Therefore, you will be able to save quality pictures directly into your computer via your connected professional camera. The program offers support for Canon and Nikon cameras. The tool may work with other camera brands as well, but you may encounter limitations in using the tool at full capacity.

Once the program is launched, you are asked to select the camera you wish to use for initiating the long-distance image captures while staying in front of your Mac. The speed of the focus controller can be tailored with ease, simply by dragging a handy slider. Furthermore, you have the ability to make camera adjustments in terms of ISO, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, focusing, metering, white balance, and picture quality. You can also determine the BULB exposure length and the output image format.

The integration with the INDI framework represents a great asset, offering control and automation of astronomical instruments for taking quality photos. You have the chance to preview the pictures within the tool's main window, so you can decide whether they are worth being preserved or if you may consider taking new shots. You can set from Preferences the computer location where to store the pictures. The files will be saved in FITS format, with file names that may include a given prefix, automatic counting numbers, and time lapse information. more
