Anomaly Warzone Earth

Anomaly Warzone Earth is an innovative game that combines elements of two different genres: real-time strategy and tower defense.

The game starts with a cutscene that shows how different anomalies land on Earth's major cities. These anomalies take the form of domes. In the first mission, human forces enter one of these domes to investigate and that's when you find out that Earth is actually facing an invasion.

In the game, you take control of the Commander, who has special powers that will help you complete your missions. Basically, your objective is to guide your troops from point A to point B safely and destroy all the enemies on your path. You don't really control the units, or at least you don't in the first few levels. You can however, choose the path that they will take. At the beginning of each level, you can access a map with the scroll wheel of your mouse, which shows the streets your units will travel through. At each intersection, you can decide whether you want to go left or right. You can also make changes mid-game, when certain obstacles appear out of no where, or when the mission requires so.

I played the first three or four levels of the game and I liked what I saw. The Commander only had one ability in the first levels, and that was to heal its units. But more abilities are unlocked later on. Although the gameplay felt a little slow at first, I really liked how the game combines strategy and tower defense. In this game, the tower defense element is played by your enemies. You are the one who has to attack their positions and overtake them.

The graphics are gorgeous and the introduction of the game has great effects. No wonder why this game has won so many design awards.

In short, Anomaly Warzone Earth is a game that can be fun, but a little slow at first. It is exquisitely designed and it plays smoothly after you have learned all the mechanics.
