Amphetamine is a program that comes as an alternative to working with Mac's Energy Saver app (settings which affect what happens when your Mac is left unwatched for a period of time that you define). This simple Menu Bar utility helps you prevent your computer from going to sleep mode for any interval of time you require.

An obvious difference between Mac's Energy Saver and Amphetamine is the fact that the latter offers you the option to keep your computer awake for as long as you want to (you can enter any value you need). Mac's default tool only lets you choose from 1 minute to 3 hours or Never option.

Amphetamine can easily be accessed and configured from your Menu Bar, uses minimum CPU resources while running in the background, and offers you simple to set up options. What's more, you can define global hotkeys for activating and disabling sleep mode options.

I also like the fact that you can schedule events. For example, you can set up the app to keep your Mac awake from 8 AM until 6 PM.

All in all, Amphetamine is a useful application that helps you block your Mac from going to sleep mode for any amount of time. The program is very simple to handle, provides you with easy to configure settings, and is free of charge.
