Am I online? is a small utility that helps you check whether your computer is really online. In this respect, it provides essential information that serves as the starting point to solve any possible issue with your Internet connection, especially when your machine seems to be physically connected, yet fails to communicate with the outside world.

The utility is very light and certainly no burden for your system. Besides, it may be set to run unobtrusively from the Menu Bar. There, it can perform regular scans and display the corresponding messages about the status of your connection. Unfortunately, however, the help documentation is very poor. In this respect, all the info about you can get comes from the description available from the developer’s webpage.

Luckily, this tool works with practically any type of Internet connection. This includes not only those made via the LAN card but also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connections. Although it may serve to take a look at its icon on the bar to check your connection status, it is also possible to consult other useful detailed information about the adapter, including a model, vendor, MAC address and IP addresses (ipv4 and ipv6).

All in all, Am I online? is a simple and unobtrusive way to get handy information about your current Internet status. Unfortunately, it does not get further than that. Thus, should you need to solve the problem, you will possibly need an additional tool, at least one supporting simple checks like running a ping command. The application can be downloaded at no cost from the Mac App Store; however, you may need to acquire the full license via in-app purchases.
