Aiseesoft DivX Converter for Mac is a video conversion utility that you can use to convert your video files to the DivX, XviD, MPEG-4, H.264, M4V, WMV, WebM and AVI formats. The application comes with a few conversion profiles that are basically pre-configured conversion settings optimized for playback on specific devices. There are only profiles for gaming consoles in this application. The ones available are Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PSP. There are a few profiles for each device. Other converters by Aiseesoft come with much more conversion profiles than this one.
If you are considering buying this application specifically for converting files to DivX, then I have unconsoling news. I selected the DivX format on the general video format list and clicked on "Settings" to see how much of the conversion process I could customize. Unfortunately, the application gives you rather limited options. For example, when I clicked on the encoder menu to see if there were more than one available, the only one I could choose was MPEG-4. From the settings window, I also was able to choose a different bit rate, resolution and aspect ratio. The maximum resolution available was 720p, which isn't bad.
In my testing, the application worked quite well. I converted a 720p MKV file into AVI, using the DivX encoder. After a quick conversion process, I tested the file with MPlayerX and it played quite smoothly. The quality was good, both for audio and video.
