This is a handy application that helps you download media files from YouTube. Whenever you find a video that you like on the already mentioned sharing website, you can use Airy YouTube Downloader as a convenient solution to save it to your computer. Once the media file is saved, you no longer need to worry that a bad Internet connection, or worse, the lack of it, may prevent you from watching a clip or listen to a favorite track any time you want.
The program comes with a straightforward and user-friendly interface. Before starting a download, it is recommended first to select a folder for storing the file. The path will be automatically kept for all your future downloads, unless you choose to be asked where to save the file each time you enable a download. Then, all you need to do is copy the YouTube file's URL and select the resolution. Obviously, the quality depends on the resolution of the uploaded file. Yet, you may lower it when saving the video, so that the target file doesn’t get much of your computer's space. What's good about this utility is that no matter how high the initial quality is, the tool supports it. I tried this feature on files with a 4K (2160p) resolution and it worked perfectly. The downloaded files are saved mainly in MP4 format. Still, you can convert the videos directly to FLV or save only the audio of a clip as MP3.
An interesting feature consists in the ability to integrate the tool into your default Internet browser. You will find it in the bookmarks bar, and it will let you enable the download simply by clicking on the YouTube video.
The program is stable and runs smoothly. I didn't encounter any error, either when saving a single file or when starting multiple downloads at once. However, I couldn't help noticing that the tool lacks two major features, which are key attributes for this kind of programs. Firstly, you can't pause and later resume a download – you can just cancel the task. If you reconsider and want to continue a download, you need to start it all over again. Secondly, the app doesn't provide a bandwidth limiter. I personally prefer to have such a function, since an enabled download may affect other computer processes that depend on the same Internet connection.
