What’s known about iPhone 17 thus far (end of April 2025)?
Apple, as per its traditional pattern, is expected to present iPhone 17 and the variations thereof in September of this year. However, there have been many leaks recently that shed some light on what we can expect from the next iteration of the legendary device. We’ve summed up everything noteworthy on the subject in this piece.
Disclaimer: please mind “noteworthy” in the previous sentence; there may be more rumors circulating, but we included only those that imply a decent level of credibility and plausibility. However, if you believe something important should be added to this account, do share it with us in the comments below.
The key sources of information for this roundup are TechRadar, Digit.in, Tom’s Guide, and Macrumors. Without further ado, here is a summary of the major leaks about the iPhone 17 series.
iPhone 17 models
Apple plans to give us four models of iPhone 17:
- iPhone 17,
- iPhone 17 Air (presumably replaces Plus),
- iPhone 17 Pro,
- and iPhone 17 Pro Max (possibly will be called Ultra).
iPhone 17 design
Basically, the iPhone 17 models are expected to be much like those of the current lineup, but some small modifications will alter their look and feel. Here’s what has been leaked so far:
- iPhone 17 Air will be extremely thin (~5.5 – 5.66 mm), with a single-lens camera bump.
- iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max (or Ultra, if Apple goes through with renaming) will have a horizontal camera bar and larger camera bumps.
- The LiDAR sensor in Pro and Pro Max models will be repositioned.
- The camera module will likely be redesigned, and sensors rearranged.
iPhone 17 hardware
Here’s the scoop of leaks and rumors about the internals of the upcoming line of iPhones.
- All the models are expected to get the ProMotion tech, which dynamically adapts the display’s refresh rate.
- The displays will probably get bigger across the lineup.
- The chipset probably chosen for iPhone 17 Pro Max (or Ultra) is A19, with 12 GB of RAM.
- There will be three 48MP cameras in the rear module of the Pro Max model.
- All models are expected to support Wi-Fi 7.
Thus, so far we can envision moderately upgraded Pro models and a very thin iPhone 17 Air. Otherwise, it would seem like the next iteration will naturally build on the existing heritage.
