iPhone 17 lineup: specs and everything else known in mid-August 2025 iPhone 17 lineup: specs and everything else known in mid-August 2025

You have probably suspected the iPhone to be one of the most successful consumer devices of its kind. Well, it actually is, as confirmed by hard numbers:

  • since its launch in 2007, there have been over 3 billion iPhones sold globally;
  • in 2024, the device generated about 51% of Apple’s total revenue;
  • around the world, the iPhone is second only to Samsung smartphones (18% vs 20% market share, respectively), but the latter has a considerably wider range of models, including cheaper ones, and relies on Android.

In late April 2025, we scooped up the news and rumors about the iPhone 17 lineup expected to hit the stores later this year. As the expected date of announcement (around September 9, 2025) draws near, more information becomes available through leaks and otherwise. So, here is the next — and likely the last — roundup of everything important known thus far about the iPhone models of 2025.

iPhone 17 lineup

To recap, the lineup of iPhone 17 models of 2025 is expected to include:

  • the standard iPhone 17,
  • the new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air (replaces the Plus model),
  • the iPhone 17 Pro,
  • and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

All of them are supposed to be available for pre-order starting on September 12, 2025, with first boxes shipped to the happy buyers a week thereafter.

iPhone 17 specs

  • Display: 6.3-inch (a bit larger than on iPhone 16), supposedly OLED, like in iPhone 16 Pro.
  • Chipset: A19 chip (an upgrade from the previous year’s comparable model).
  • Cameras: a dual-lens setup with Wide and Ultra Wide (48 MP and 12 MP, respectively) cameras on the back, and a 24MP front-facing TrueDepth camera.
  • Memory options: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB; the RAM will likely be 8GB.
  • Expected colors: purple, green, blue, black, and white.
  • Pricing: rumored to start at $799.

iPhone 17 Air specs

  • Display: 6.6-inch, likely OLED (similar to that in the standard iPhone 17 but bigger).
  • Chipset: A19 Pro chip with some GPU core reductions (mightier than in the standard iPhone 17).
  • Cameras: a single 48-megapixel rear camera (same wide lens as in the iPhone 16 models), since the ultra-thin body of the model cannot accommodate a triple-lens setup; a 24MP front-facing TrueDepth camera.
  • Memory options: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB; the RAM will likely be 12GB instead of 8GB.
  • Expected colors: light blue, light gold, black, and silver.
  • Pricing: Expected around $949 to $999, which is a bit more than was asked for the Plus model the Air is replacing.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max specs

  • Display: 6.3-inch in the iPhone 17 Pro, and 6.9-inch in the iPhone 17 Pro Max; both are Super Retina XDR OLED.
  • Chipset: A19 Pro chip built on 3nm technology.
  • Cameras: a triple 48 MP rear camera system (main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses), and a 24MP front-facing TrueDepth camera.
  • Memory options: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB for the iPhone 17 Pro, and an additional option of 2TB for the iPhone 17 Pro Max (no 128GB model); 12 GB of RAM for both models.
  • Expected colors: black, white, gray (like natural titanium), dark blue, orange (or copper, a new option for the Pro subline).
  • Pricing: for the iPhone 17 Pro, the estimated starting price is $1,049 to $1,149, and that for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is $1,499.

iPhone 17 common features across the lineup

Here are the common specs and features that are expected in all the iPhone 17 models:

  • ProMotion Display with 120Hz Refresh Rate, an OLED panel that ensures smoother scrolling and better video playback.
  • A 24MP front camera, with the TrueDepth tech, shooting selfies twice as crisp and sharp as the previous models.
  • All models support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3; iPhone 17 Air is supposed to have Apple's first in-house 5G modem, while others rely on Qualcomm modems.
  • A vapor chamber enhancing cooling is expected at least in Pro models.
  • The always-on display feature will likely be available throughout the lineup.
