4Media DVD to MP4 Converter

4Media DVD to MP4 Converter is a commercial DVD ripper. It allows you to convert your DVD movies into H.264, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, WMV, and DivX files.

It also has some conversion profiles for devices like iPods, iRivers, PSPs and the Playstation 3. You can choose what audio track and subtitle you want to use for your files and there is support for subtitle hard-coding, which means that the subtitle will be embedded on the video. This is great for devices that don't support subtitles.

In terms of design, 4Media uses the Windows interface that I have praised so many times. It looks very good on the Mac and it is stable as well. There is a video player for quick video preview and a CPU meter that shows the state of your CPU at all times.

In terms of performance, I thought 4Media DVD to MP4 Converter worked very well and was on par with other similar commercial apps in speed and quality.

Unfortunately, this app runs an installation wizard that is among the most annoying ones I have had to endure. It asks for your password, and it requires quite a bit of user input. Not a big deal for some, but there are easier ways to do this. Also, some features that you can usually find in similar or even free solutions like a video editor, trimmer and cropper are not available in this app.
