Will all versions of uTorrent work on Mac 10.6.8? I thought that years ago a new version would not work for me, so I was forced to go back to an ancient version that I am still using. Version is 0.9.3.5. I don't want to install a new version and then run into trouble.

The latest stable version for uTorrent for Mac is 1.8.7 build 43001. According to the details found on various websites, it appears that the version can be installed on Macs starting with OSX 10.6 or later. This means you can safely upgrade to a higher version although it has been discussed before that new versions, although they are stable, have issues and bugs and old versions worked better.
Kindly help me increase the speed of uTorrent downloads. How can I optimize the way the software works?

The speed of the uTorrent application is greatly influenced by the connections available withing the torrent file, tracker, peers, your ISP, download cap, etc.
The only thing you can do to increase the speed is open the ports that uTorrent connects through. Additionally, make sure you downloaded a torrent that has many seeds and peers. This will increase the speed even if you are behind a firewall or router.
Now the downloading speed in uTorrent is irritatingly slow. Please advice. How to optimize the process?

The first thing you have to do is to configure uTorrent to enable the encryption protocol. Without it, trackers will block connections. To do this, use the settings in the image below.
After you configure these settings, click on BitTorrent on the left menu, then make sure you note the port. If you're using a router, connect to the router's administration interface, look for Forward Rules and add that port as TCP and UDP for your IP. Once you are connectable, download speed should increase accordingly.
What is port forwarding? Please explain in simple words. How to forward ports in uTorrent?

In simple terms, port forwarding or port mapping, is a common technique of forwarding a network port from one node to another. This method allows a public users to reach a certain port or service for a private IP address (usually in a LAN). For example, if you are behind a router, the PC has an IP of 192.168.0.2 while the router has 192.168.0.1. When you download with uTorrent, the requests are being sent by 192.168.0.1, but that IP belongs to the router, not the PC. Other users from where you want to download from will connect to router instead of your computer. A port forward (example port: 25678) will tell those external users that 192.168.0.1 is actually the computer. When opened on PC in uTorrent, port 25678 will permit communication between your computer and other users, therefore making you connectable.
To open a port, connect to the administration interface of your router, then go to Firewall > Forwarding rules or NAT > Forward/Port Forward (it differs from one router to another). In the Forward section, input the IP of your computer, then the port from uTorrent (you can find it in uTorrent > Options > Preferences > Connection) and check TCP and UDP and that's it. Eventually restart the router to apply the changes correctly.
I'm just tired of endless ads in uTorrent. How to remove them?

There is a quick and easy solution to remove the ads from uTorrent through a JS code. Once developer created the Pimp my uTorrent script that automatically removes all the ads and customizes the interface to make it cleaner.
Visit the page, click the button, then switch to uTorrent and accept the change. Close uTorrent from System Tray and then re-launch it and the ads will be history.
I have read the description of uTorrent on Software Informer, but can't understand anything. Can you give some information about uTorrent in simple words with details (examples will be good)?

The uTorrent is a slim application that allows you to download torrent containers in form of .torrent files. Those files contain information about a public tracker, that holds information about seeders (users who already have the content) and peers (users who are currently downloading the content.). The uTorrent uses P2P technology. For example, you have a 1 GB file that has been created as a torrent and it's available on a user's computer. That user creates a .torrent file and embeds data about the file: size, tracker URL, seeds, peers. Once the .torrent file is added to uTorrent, that user makes the file available worldwide. Any other users downloading the .torrent file will begin to receive chunks of the 1 GB data. If there are many users, the uTorrent client will get a part of the entire file from each of the available users. It's like a web of computers that communicate with each other. Everyone who has the file provides it to downloading for others who are connected to the web.
Yes, the latest version of uTorrent supports magnet links. However, it's recommended to use only magnet links due to anonymity and better speed management. Nowadays, torrent files are still being used but with so many restrictions in effect, magnet links are constantly being used.

Most Mac users use Transmission.
