PhotoSweeper is a nice utility that lets you organize your pictures. It works with images loaded into your iPhoto, Aperture or Lightroom libraries or any photo that you drag into the application. Once your photos are added, you can compare them to find similar images or even duplicates. The application does more than look into file names and EXIF data to find duplicates or similar photos, it actually analyses them. All the photos that are in some degree similar are grouped after you compare them. Here, the images will be shown side to side so you can decide which one you want to keep. The app displays a similarity percentage to help you choose. Duplicates will be 100% identical, while photos that simply look similar will range in the 95% to 99% percentages.
PhotoSweeper displays a pane with very comprehensive information about your pictures, which includes file name, document type, size, creation and modification dates, image size and DPI, orientation, exposure time, etc.
I like the fact that you can move a slider to change the matching level. If you move the slider all the way to the left more images will be shown, because even pictures that are slightly similar will be grouped. If you move it all the way to the right, only duplicates will be displayed.
