How did my program end up on Mac Informer?

Our website works in conjunction with a client application, which is used by millions of people to keep their installed software up to date. The client application collects information about the installed programs on its users' computers and sends this information (each program's title, icons, developer name) back to our servers. This is how our database is populated.

We encourage you to register on our site so you can access all the features of our service, including suggesting corrections to programs. If some information on your program's page is incorrect, please use the 'Update program info' link to inform us of any error(s) or submit PAD files for your applications without registration on our web site.

Please remember that suggested links may only lead to the original developer's domain. PayPal or Regnow and similar links are unacceptable even though are oftentimes valid. We prefer a link to a page on the developer's domain where the visitor of our site has the opportunity of choosing to download and/or to purchase the product.

How to add my program to Mac Informer's database?

There are two ways to add your program to our database. The first one is by means of our Client. Install the client alongside your program and click on Refresh in the Client. If your program is installed properly and recognized by our Client, its entry is automatically added to our database. We suggest you also register on our site to be able to provide additional information about your program through the 'Update program info' link on the program's page (you can also access your program's page from the Client). You can also choose to request the latest version of your program to be reviewed by one of our independent contributors. We will arrange this as soon as you express your interest in having your program reviewed.

One more way is to submit PAD files for your applications. You can find more information here.

Please note that your program should not promote gambling, violence, sex, extremism, terrorism, and/or include explicit or malicious content.

How to request an editorial review of my program?

The independent software informers download and test the listed programs, writing unbiased reviews of those programs (a program should have at least one user to be reviewed). The period during which a review is completed varies and completely depends on reviewer's availability.

Mac Informer checks each review for grammar and appropriateness (inappropriate language, spam). The contributors are not held responsible for expressing their personal opinion and their experience with a program. All reviews should be deemed as opinions expressed by contributors, and they do not always reflect Software Informer's attitude towards any program, software suite, or developer.

Please contact us to request an independent, unbiased review to be made by one of our contributors.

How do I go about incorrect/incomplete information about my program?

To complete or correct a program's description, screenshots, links, or any other information on our site you need to follow next steps. All these suggestions undergo moderation and, when approved, are queued for caching by our servers; therefore, it may take some time for the changes to appear on our site (normally not more than 12 hours).

Please provide links that lead to the original developer's website. PayPal or Regnow and similar links are unacceptable even though are oftentimes valid. We prefer a link to a page on the developer's domain where the visitor of our site has the opportunity of choosing to download and/or to purchase the product.

Another way to correct your information about your program is to submit PAD files for your applications. You don't need a registration then.

In case of missing or incorrect program's icons, please send us an email with the icons of the following sizes: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48 in .PNG format [1].

What should I do about a Virus/Spyware warning on my program's page?

We use a number of third-party services (including but not limited to McAfee, Google Site Advisor, and various Antivirus suites) to check all homepage and download links for phishing, spyware, and viruses. Should you encounter a warning on your program's page, please follow the report link to gather more information and be able to resolve the matter with the respective third-party service provider. When the issue is resolved or in cases when the third-party service provider has already removed the warning but it is still displayed on our site, please contact us.

Today's Highlight

A program can be featured in our Today's Highlight (TH) block, which is placed in the rotator at the top of the main page and also on every page of our web site in the upper right corner. The developer who wishes to participate in this free promotion should place a backlink to Software Informer on his/her program's original website. Participation in the promotion is subject to conditions and requirements, please keep reading to learn more.

What is it in for you?

Informer.com is on the list of the world's 500 most visited websites on the Internet (according to Alexa.com, Winter 2014). We serve nearly 3 million clicks and welcome over 700 000 unique visitors every day. Since Today's Highlight is displayed on almost every page of a particular project's website, the programs featured in the block will get the exposure they deserve among the visitors of our site.

What are the conditions and requirements?

The program should be in Mac Informer's database, and you should be able to provide its description and icons of the following sizes: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48 in .PNG format [2]. The program should not promote gambling, violence, sex, extremism, terrorism, and/or include explicit or malicious content.

The backlink should be cacheable by search engines. It can be in form of an award (found in the Awards tab on the program's page at Mac Informer; just click on the award to reveal the code you can use), our banner, or a simple text link to us. Our preference is that the link be placed as close to the program that is going to be featured as possible.

Up to two programs a day can be featured in our Today's Highlight (TH) block that are rotated every five minutes for a period of time, stated by Informer Technologies' staff. The Today's Highlight space is not for sale; it is a free opportunity for developers to promote their program to our audience. The final decision to feature the program shall rest with Informer Technologies' staff.

Please contact us with your questions or when the link is placed on your website.

Submit or update my program

Submitting a PAD file for your program allows you to keep your product versions, descriptions, and other information up to date using simple XML. Once your PAD file is approved by our managers, your product info is updated.
You can submit your PAD file here.

To update your software info, use the 'Update program info' link found on your program page.

Please note that your program should not promote gambling, violence, sex, extremism, terrorism, and/or include explicit or malicious content. Otherwise, the developer and the program will be banned.
