Info updated on:

MockingBot is intended for prototyping mobile apps and websites. In this regard, the tool supports developing specifically iOS and Android apps, but this does not mean you cannot use personalized dimensions.

Like many other similar products nowadays, it has the advantage of allowing you to design your project without needing to deal with any code. However, it may still have a steep learning curve at the beginning, mainly if you do not have previous experience with other tools of this type. There is a guide to help you take the first steps. Regrettably, it seems that the video tutorials available are in Chinese.

MockingBot works as a client of online services that provide a collaboration platform as well as a storage space for your projects. Thus, in order to use the app, you need to create an account. There are three plans available: one of them is free, but it has restrictions as to the number of projects, storage capacity and collaboration possibilities. The other plans, Personal and Enterprise, come with a price tag and remove the limitations just described.

MockingBot has a streamlined and organized interface. Luckily, there is the possibility to manage your project’s assets, which, depending on the plan chosen, you can share with other users.

As said, you should begin a project by setting the intended screen size. The workflow is simple: you should design your project’s screens and then join them by using transitions. In this respect, one of the advantages of MockingBot is that there are lots of readymade elements you can use to save a lot of time and effort. For instance, it is possible to start with a template and then modify it to meet your exact needs. Likewise, you can find a huge palette of other objects, such as widgets and combos, which you easily drag and drop onto the desired screen. What is more, you can create your own reusable templates.

Luckily, other users can preview your work if you simply share it with them. This can happen not only via the online collaboration platform, as it is also possible to provide them with a URL they can open in a regular web browser. Besides, you can generate a QR code, which your partners can scan with their devices to try the real prototype.

All in all, MockingBot comes with practically anything it takes to design prototypes that look as the final apps. Since you do not need to write code, your productivity is significantly boosted. Unfortunately, it does not work without an Internet connection.
