Local by Flywheel allows developing WordPress sites locally. It is mainly intended for WordPress designers and developers. Still, if you are a beginner, there is nothing to worry about, for Local by Flywheel comes with multiple features that automate your work and simplify the process of deploying WordPress.

Setting up your local WordPress websites is just a matter of a few clicks. Luckily, there are templates so that you do not need to start from scratch. Besides, some of the default features work perfectly as they come. Likewise, plugins, themes and options are automatically activated with every user login. In this respect, it is great that you can create a template, called Blueprint here, which can take care of restoring all data to where it should be.

Once you have created your sites, there is a sort of dashboard from where you can monitor their status very easily. Similarly, the app lets you access various configurable elements, such as dashboards, databases and directories. For instance, you can set different types of servers (Apache and NGINX) for your trials. Moreover, you can pick the PHP version you prefer. In this respect, it is great that you can change versions and domain without losing previous work.

Luckily, there are various ways in which you can share your sites. For example, there is a tunnel that allows others to read your site from other devices via Internet. Besides, local WordPress sites can also be exported or imported, together with all their constituents, like files, databases and settings. What is more, it is possible to create full backups of your sites.

All in all, Local by Flywheel helps to boost your productivity when you are building WordPress sites. In this respect, it minimizes the steps in the workflow to save you a lot of time and effort. Unfortunately, its standard version does not come with a means to check links. By the way, the basic features are available for free, and, should you want more, you could probably check what the Pro version has to offer.
