HDHomeRun is intended to serve as a front-end for a TV tuner device with the same name. The tuner can redistribute digital (air or cable) TV signals over a network. This way, you can watch your favorite shows on practically any device that supports network connections, such as computers, tablets, smartphones and game consoles.

The app I am reviewing helps you do that on your MacBook. Luckily, it allows connecting your Mac computer to the TV tuner in practically no time. In this respect, it comes with dynamic tuner allocation, which lets you connect to the desired tuner, in case there are various to choose from. Likewise, it supports automatic channel rescan.

This tool’s interface is very friendly, just like using a smart TV. Fortunately, it allows not only watching live TV but also recording your favorite show. In this respect, it is possible to schedule recording a specific show. Moreover, it is possible to pause live TV for up to 60 minutes if you need to. What is more, you can even rewind up to 5 minutes to watch that part of the show you accidentally missed.

All in all, HDHomeRun is an excellent companion for the TV tuner as it lets you take advantage of all its features. Regrettably, it does not support viewing DRM contents, though. The app is downloadable at no cost, but remember that it does not work without a tuner.
