Info updated on:

FindMyFileServer is a neat system search application. There are two parts that make up this service. There is the server end and the client end. The server is installed on your PC or Mac computer. The client can be installed on iPods, iPhones and iPads.

When you install the server, it will ask you to link your dropbox account to it. FindMyFile is heavily dependent on DropBox. It uses the DropBox service to communicate between devices. All you need to do is to allow the application to use your DropBox account.

FindMyFileServer runs on the menubar. When you click on the icon, a window will pop-up. This window contains the application settings and it also displays information about the app. There isn't much you can change. In fact, you can only check whether you are connecting to the server with the free or the standard version of the client, and you can choose to limit the scope of the search to a single directory which you can select.

I like that you can pin this window on your screen which makes it remain on top of all other running applications.

When the server is setup, you can connect with a client and search for files on the server computer. If the format of the file is supported by the client, you can even open it on the client device.
