BatchRename Flex allows you to rename files in bulks based on user-defined patterns. The application’s interface is rather spartan. It is divided into four panels, which correspond to the different stages of the renaming process: importing files, defining renaming patterns, previewing results and applying changes. Luckily, there are multiple built-in rules so you do not need to define new ones all the time. And if you cannot find one that meets your specific needs, there is also a wizard to help you create your own renaming rules.

The best thing about this tool is its support of multiple renaming methods. In this regard, it is possible to modify the original file name by inserting characters at the beginning, the ending or even in the middle. Likewise, you can remove or replace, as well as truncate and convert specific parts of the file name to a different letter case. Similarly, it is excellent that your renaming patters can include dynamic information, which you can get from file attributes and tags.

Since renaming a long list of files may cause some unexpected results, it is good news that you can preview the changes before actually applying them. And even after the renaming process has been executed, there is the possibility to revert all the changes made.

In short, BatchRename Flex supports a lot of different ways to customize bulk file renaming. Probably because of that, the tool can take much more time to process your files than other similar apps. The product is available at no cost from the Mac Store and some features should be acquired via in-app purchases.
