AKVIS Coloriage is intended to colorize your photographs. In this respect, the tool is useful not only for adding colors to black-and-white photographs, but also replacing certain colors in a picture and trying various colors on interior and exterior walls, for instance. Moreover, you can simply have fun by dying people´s hair a different color. Although the application is not difficult to use, it is always good that there is a detailed user guide to help you around.

AKVIS Coloriage supports importing and exporting to various popular picture formats, including TIFF, BMP, JPEG, and PNG. Similarly, it can open files from not only local folders but network locations as well.

Compared with other more sophisticated applications, AKVIS Coloriage has the main advantage of being a lot easier to use. In this regard, the tool uses powerful algorithms to automate the process and free you from colorizing photographs stroke by stroke. You would normally expect the results not to be so good; yet, they are actually quite decent.

Fortunately, the application lets you compare the picture before and after the changes. Besides, there are multiple tools you can use for varying purposes. Probably, the most frequently used are the Pencil and the Color Palette. Fortunately, there is also a Color Library, which includes various types of objects, textures and materials, such as skin, eyes, fabric and wood. Also, the Tube tool redefines colors while the Magic Tube can help you repaint all strokes of a color. The Recolor Brush, in turn, can be used to add transparency effects. Finally, it is excellent that you can save colors and strokes, which helps to keep color consistency between photos in a series.

The main disadvantage of this product is that it has a very specific purpose: all it does is coloring photographs. It does not come with other features, like those that let you restore photos by deleting scratches and stains.

To sum up, Akvis Coloriage may not be as sophisticated and certainly not as versatile as other tools. However, it is a good solution when you do not want to spend hours on a colorizing job or do not have the necessary skills. The product is available in three editions Home, Home Deluxe and Business. Likewise, it is available both as a standalone application and a plugin for AliveColors, Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and Corel PaintShop Pro.
